Datalogic Magellan 1500i — Frequently Asked Questions
1. General & Performance
What type of barcode scanner is the Datalogic Magellan 1500i?
The Magellan 1500i is a high-performance, compact presentation barcode scanner designed for retail Point of Sale (POS), pharmacies, customer service desks, and light manufacturing. It utilizes 2D area-imaging technology to automatically scan barcodes swept or presented in front of its window.
What types of barcodes can the Magellan 1500i scan?
It captures all standard 1D linear barcodes, 2D matrix codes (such as QR codes, Data Matrix, PDF417, and Aztec), as well as digital barcodes directly from smartphone and tablet screens (ideal for mobile loyalty programs, digital coupons, and ticketing).
Does the Magellan 1500i support both hands-free and handheld scanning?
Yes. While primarily designed as a hands-free presentation scanner on its weighted stand, its small footprint and ergonomic side grips allow operators to easily pick it up to scan large, heavy, or bulky items directly in the shopping cart.
2. Illumination & Features
What is Datalogic’s ‘Targeting System’ and Motionix™ technology on the 1500i?
The Magellan 1500i features Motionix™ motion-sensing technology, which detects operator movement and automatically switches between hands-free presentation mode and handheld scanning mode. It uses comfortable, deep-red adaptive illumination to eliminate harsh glare and eye fatigue during long cashier shifts.
What visual scan confirmation does the Magellan 1500i provide?
It features Datalogic’s patented ‘Green Spot’ technology, projecting a soft green spot directly onto the scanned barcode to confirm a successful read—providing instant visual feedback even in noisy retail environments.
